Single mum Danielle, 31, from Tameside, Greater Manchester, joined the dating site Plenty Of Fish and met Ryan Fletcher, 38, in June 2016. Initially, their relationship seemed promising, but less than a year in, Ryan became possessive and violent.

Ryan’s abuse escalated, culminating in a brutal attack after a night out that caused a medical condition, leading to a large tumour behind Danielle’s ear and resulting in partial deafness. Danielle, a mother of one, endured increasing violence, eventually fleeing to her mum’s home in April 2018.

She bravely recorded Ryan’s threats, which became crucial evidence in his trial. In February, at Manchester’s Minshull Street Court, Ryan was convicted of two counts of assault and one of threatening criminal damage, receiving a three-and-a-half-year sentence.

Danielle, now wary of men, hopes to support other victims of domestic abuse by joining the police. Despite ongoing treatment for her hearing and emotional scars, she draws strength from having put her abuser behind bars.
