Ginny and Georgia season 3 latest news
Here’s the latest on Ginny and Georgia season 3:
According to What’s on Netflix, filming prep begins in Toronto in February 2024. However, this is just a rumor at the moment because neither the show’s production team nor Netflix has released this information to the public.
As of November 2023, the SAG-AFTRA strike has ended.
As of September 2023, Ginny and Georgia season 3 has not started production but the WGA strike has ended.
On July 12, Ginny and Georgia received an Emmy nomination.
Ginny and Georgia star Brianne Howey had her first child, sharing a sweet photo on Instagram.
During the Netflix upfronts presentation on May 17, 2023, Netflix revealed they had renewed the show for TWO more seasons!
Ginny and Georgia creator Sarah Lampert posted pics on Instagram from the writers’ strike on May 3, 2023.
Netflix mentioned Ginny and Georgia season 2 was one of its most popular seasons ever in its letter to shareholders for Q1 2023. Before The Night Agent was released in March, Ginny and Georgia season 2 was the 10th-most popular Netflix new release ever.
Ginny and Georgia season 3 is happening
Ginny and Georgia is hands down one of the best teen series streaming on Netflix, and there’s just no arguing that. The first season dropped in 2021, and it took over a year until we got to see the second season. We had hoped Ginny and Georgia season 2 would come out by the end of 2022, but Netflix opted to release it at the beginning of the new year.
But I must say, the second season was definitely worth the wait. It was more drama-filled than the first season and thoroughly entertaining. And don’t get me started on the season 2 finale.
Netflix finally renewed Ginny and Georgia for season 3 in May 2023. It was a terribly long wait for fans of the original series. The second season premiered in January 2023, but fans had to wait until May for the series to be renewed. That almost never happens for huge hits like Ginny and Georgia.
So, why did the renewal take so long?
According to Deadline, the lengthy wait to renewal might have been due to behind-the-scenes friction between new showrunner Sarah Glinski (Degrassi: The Next Generation) and departing showrunner Debra J. Fisher. Fisher served as showrunner for the first two seasons, but will be replaced by Glinski moving forward.
Does Ginny and Georgia season 3 have a release date?
Unfortunately, we do not have a release date yet. It will likely be a while before Netflix announces a release date because the filmmaking process hasn’t even started yet.
Although the WGA strike ended in September 2023, there hasn’t been any news yet about the writers returning to the writers room for season 3. The scripts will have to be completed before production on the new season can be started. Then, after production, the episodes will need to be edited to perfection in post-production before it’s ready for viewing.
We had to wait almost two years between seasons of Ginny and Georgia. Assuming the writers, cast, and crew can get to work on the new season in 2023, we should definitely see Ginny and Georgia season 3 on Netflix in 2024.
We have anticipated that the creative team will need at least a year to write, film, and edit the season. And, that’s assuming Netflix doesn’t have them film season 3 and season 4 back to back.
There’s still so much we don’t know about what’s going to happen with Ginny and Georgia season 3, but at the very earliest, we could see the new season in late 2024. But, things need to get going fast.
If things don’t get rolling soon, Ginny and Georgia season 3 will be pushed to 2025. Hopefully, that won’t happen, but it’s hard to see, knowing how long these things take, that not being the most realistic scenario right now.
Release Prediction: Late 2024 (at the earliest)
How many seasons of Ginny and Georgia are there?
There are only two seasons of Ginny and Georgia, and they’re available to stream on Netflix right now. Both seasons consist of 10 episodes each, with episode runtimes ranging from 50 to 60 minutes long.
And, we have some really good news about those future seasons!
When could filming start on the third season?
Since the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are officially over, the filmmaking process can get started any day now. We expect that the creative team will be back to work on Ginny and Georgia season 3 very soon. And this is if the writers aren’t already in the process of writing the scripts. However, we haven’t received any word that the writers are back in the writers room for season 3 just yet. Once the writers finish writing the scripts, the cast and crew can start shooting the third season.
Ginny and Georgia is one of the biggest Netflix shows of all time, and we have a feeling it will be one of the first shows back in production now that the writers and actors strikes have ended. Obviously, there are a lot of variables in play with production restarting all at once, but we’re hopeful that the cast and crew of Ginny and Georgia will be back at it soon and that Netflix will announce this good news to the world.
Could Ginny and Georgia season 3 and 4 be filmed back to back?
Ginny and Georgia season 3 and season 4 are officially in the works. Netflix renewed the series for two seasons in May 2023. With some of its teen shows, Netflix has ordered two seasons, and those seasons were filmed back to back.
It happened most recently with Locke and Key season 2 and season 3. It drastically cut down the gap between seasons, but we did have to wait a little longer than usual for that second season because the cast and crew were filming two seasons when post-production could have been happening for just that second season. We also saw it with Sweet Tooth season 2 and season 3, and we’re hoping the gap between those seasons won’t be that long.
It makes sense for a lot of reasons to film Ginny and Georgia season 3 and 4 back to back. It could help financially and keep the production budget a little bit lower, but most importantly, it helps with continuity. This young cast is not getting any younger, and it’s always a challenge to keep up production as young casts get older.
From a selfish perspective, we’d love to see the cast and crew film both seasons back to back because we won’t have to wait as long between seasons. But, we also understand that it’s a massive undertaking for the creative team, cast, and crew, and if they don’t want to, we don’t want to add any pressure to an already stressful job.
Ginny and Georgia season 2 ending explained
The second season ends on a cliffhanger with Georgia being arrested for the murder of Tom Fuller at her wedding and then booked into jail. In a previous episode, Georgia murders Tom by smothering him with a pillow until he stops breathing. It’s unclear why exactly Georgia killed him, but our guess is that she wanted to repay Cynthia somehow since she helped block Gil’s apartment application. But now Georgia has to pay the consequences.
Here are some other things that happened in the season 2 finale:
Max and Sophie seem to break things off for good even though Sophie wants to remain friends.
It looked like Abby was about to tell Norah about her struggles with body image and having an eating disorder, but Norah was distracted by her boyfriend.
Georgia opens up to Paul about her criminal past but leaves out the murders.
Ginny and Marcus decide to be friends.
Paul tells Gil to stay away from Georgia and the kids, or he’ll make sure he ends up back in prison. This seems to scare Gil away.
PI Gabriel Cordova reveals his true identity to his boyfriend, Nick. Nick ultimately breaks up with him because he lied about who he was.
What could the third season be about?
There are so many things that could be covered in the third season. Since Georgia was arrested, this will obviously affect Ginny and Austin. Who will watch over them now that their mother is in jail? Ginny and Georgia were on good terms before the arrest, but everything will probably go downhill once Ginny finds out that Georgia did actually kill Tom. Then, there’s Austin. He witnessed Georgia kill Tom and then watched her get taken away by police. This is a lot for a 10-year-old boy to handle. He’ll most likely need to be put in therapy like Ginny.
What about Paul? Georgia’s arrest can’t look good for his reputation since he’s the mayor. Will he decide that it’s too much and divorce her? We also didn’t get to see Cynthia’s reaction to finding out that Georgia killed her husband. I don’t think we saw the last of Gil, either. Now that Georgia has been arrested, he’ll probably return and use her arrest to try to win custody over Austin.
We need to see if Ginny and Marcus get back together. They love each other too much just to be friends. Max and Silver also had a fling in season 2. Could they get together in season 3? What about Ginny’s struggle with self-harm and Marcus’s depression? The second season touched on these sensitive topics, but I feel more can be explored in a third season. Lastly, previous seasons have slightly touched on Abby’s struggles with body image. The third season could delve deeper into her problems to find the cause.
Although we don’t know for sure what Ginny and Georgia season 3 will be about, series creator Sarah Lampert reveals that the creative team already has the third season planned out. Lampert spoke with Deadline and mentioned some of the things she’d like to explore in the third season.
Here’s what Lampert said about Austin’s storyline in the third season:
““Austin isn’t squeaky clean. He’s a kid, but he stabbed someone in the hand with a pencil, he — way more than Ginny, seems very okay with the fact that his mom’s done all this stuff, he doesn’t seem fazed whatsoever (laughs)… That’s not true. If we get to Season 3, we’ll have to dig deep into what he saw transpire in season two and the emotional ramifications of that.””
Lampert also mentions how she would like to explore Cynthia’s reaction to Georgia’s arrest.
“Anything could happen. I think that Cynthia in no means wanted Georgia to do that. I think that it would shock her to find out, and obviously we weren’t with her, we don’t know what happened off camera in between that scene that led to the arrest. But that would definitely be something that I think we would want to explore in Season 3.”
In an interview with TV Guide back in January 2023, Lampert doesn’t necessarily spoil how Georgia’s arrest will impact her relationship with Paul going forward, but she does tease that it could be the last straw for him. She tells TV Guide that it “would need to be explored in Season 3.”
Also, if you were wondering about Georgia and Joe’s romantic future, Lampert says you’ll have to watch the third season to find out.
Who could return in the third season?
There isn’t an official cast list yet. However, we have an idea of who could possibly return. Obviously, Antonia Gentry (Ginny), Brianne Howey (Georgia), and Diesel La Torraca (Austin) will reprise their roles as the Miller family.
Here’s who else we believe could return in the third season:
Jennifer Robertson as Ellen Baker
Felix Mallard as Marcus Baker
Sara Waisglass as Maxine “Max” Baker
Scott Porter as Mayor Paul Randolph
Raymond Ablack as Joe
Aaron Ashmore as Gil Timmins
Katie Douglas as Abby
Chelsea Clark as Norah
Mason Temple as Hunter Chen
Sabrina Grdevich as Cynthia Fuller
Colton Gobbo as Jordan
Nathan Mitchell as Zion Miller
Rebecca Ablack as Padma
Tyssen Smith as Brodie
Daniel Beirne as Nick
Alex Mallari Jr. as PI Gabriel Cordova
Damian Romeo as Matt Press
Chris Kenopic as Clint Baker
Romi Shraiter as Samantha
Tameka Griffiths as Bracia
Katelyn Wells as Silver
Zarrin Darnell-Martin as Dr. Lily
Vinessa Antoine as Simone
Nikki Roumel as teenage Georgia Miller
Kyle Bary as teenage Zion Miller
We can probably expect some new cast additions as well in the third season.
How many episodes could Ginny and Georgia season 3 be?
Unfortunately, the total episode count for Ginny and Georgia season 3 has not been revealed. However, seasons 1 and 2 were given 10 episodes each, so our guess is that there will be 10 episodes in the third season. There’s a possibility that Netflix could order more or fewer episodes, but 10 episodes seem more likely.
When it comes to the age rating for the third season, it’ll probably be rated TV-14 like the previous two seasons. It’s rare when Netflix changes the age rating for a show as the seasons go on, and we don’t foresee this happening with the third season. It’s possible but not likely.
Could Ginny and Georgia season 3 arrive on Netflix in 2023?
If Netflix was planning season 3 prior to the season 2 premiere, we could, theoretically, have seen season 3 sometime later this year. But since Netflix only just announced the renewal in May 2023, we probably won’t see the third season until late 2024 at the earliest.
Also, Netflix doesn’t usually release two new seasons of a show in the same year, especially for a big show like Ginny and Georgia. So even if the third season was ready to be released in 2023, the streamer would’ve most likely held it until the next year.
Ginny and Georgia season 4 is officially happening at Netflix
Yes, you read that right! A fourth season will be coming to Netflix in the future. On May 17, Netflix announced the good news. The teen series was officially renewed for a third and fourth season on this date. It’s going to be a while before we learn any new information about the fourth season since the third season hasn’t even come out yet. But, of course, you can count on us to share everything that is revealed and announced.
Could Ginny and Georgia season 4 be the final season?
Netflix has not announced that Ginny and Georgia season 4 will be the final season, so that’s great news for fans who want this show to run for a long time. However, there are a few reasons we’d expect Ginny and Georgia season 4 to be the final season.
For one, Netflix just doesn’t make many shows that last for longer than four seasons, especially not teen shows. There’s only a handful of recent shows that have surpassed three or four seasons on Netflix, so it would be normal for Ginny and Georgia season 4 to be the final season.
Additionally, Debra J. Fisher, who has since been replaced as showrunner with Sarah Glinski taking over, told TheWrap that they pitched Ginny and Georgia as four seasons to Netflix. She also said that they know where the show is going and what the “end game” will be.
““We did always know where we wanted to end this season. When Sarah and I went in together to pitch to Netflix, we pitched four seasons, and knock on all the wood. We know where Season 3 begins and ends and we know the end game.””
So, it’s starting to look like season 4 will be the final season of the series.
Ginny and Georgia star Brianne Howey welcomes her first child
On June 18, 2023, the amazingly talented actress Brianne Howey, who plays Georgia in the teen series, announced to the world via an Instagram post that she welcomed her first child. The caption to the post reads, “My whole world just got a whole lot sweeter. And smaller. Welcome my little love.” She shares her child with her husband Matt Ziering.
Howey first announced she was pregnant back in March 2023. She posted a full-body photo of herself with a noticeable bump on Instagram with a caption reading, “@boss show with my forever new +1 thanks for having us! Loved every second of the new collection #hugoboss.” Her Ginny and Georgia castmates were quick to congratulate her on her pregnancy.
Her on-screen daughter Antonia Gentry (Ginny) left a comment under the post saying “so. happy. for. you.” Sara Waisglass, who plays Ginny’s best friend Max, commented: “OMG BRIANNE YOU ARE GLOWING IM FREAKING OUT AAAAAAAAAH IM ALREADY JEALOUS OF YOUR CHILD!!!!!!!!!!!” Diesel La Torraca, who portrays Georgia’s son Austin, commented “I can’t wait to be a big brother!!! Sooooooo excited!!!”
Ginny and Georgia season 2 earns Emmy nomination
On July 12, the nominations for the 2023 Emmy Awards were revealed and Ginny and Georgia managed to earn a nomination for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics. The nomination is for a song that is featured in Ginny and Georgia season 2 episode 8. The song is titled “Marriage Is A Dungeon” by Ben Bromfield and Lili Haydn. We’ll find out if Ginny and Georgia wins the award during the ceremony planned for Jan. 15, 2024.
